BATTLEGROUND
RESEARCH, DOCUMENTARY & BOOK ARTS
Bodies have their own light which they consume to live: they burn, they are not lit from the outside.
Egon SchieleÂ
After our last group exhibition in Iran; "The Mirror Stage or What I Am Not", in 2015 at Arte Gallery, with the theme of sexuality and gender - which was closed early with the pressure of authorities - and inspired by Barbara Kruger, I formed a Fanzine that began with body cultural history studies in the totalitarian theocratic regimes. The "Battleground" Fanzine, which is likely to be completed by the end of 2021, includes a number of social documentary photographs in the last five years. Now, the relationship between body and city in Iran and to a lesser extent in Turkey transforms the city from a multidimensional socio-cultural space that is formed by the interaction and balance of citizens' bodies into a surface in which the body only travels between two locations.
Our bodies have now become battlegrounds in which the individuality of each citizen as a unique storyteller is suppressed to become a mass that is consumed as an ideological capital.
My narrative in "Battleground", like any story, has ups and downs, the photographs have been taken in several different spaces and climates, and as can be seen in their form, with my questions and perceptions about the issue of the body in Tehran, several other cities in Iran And Istanbul has been transformed, just as society and ourselves, perceive our bodies in the lows and highs of the city streets.
